KUALA LUMPUR, 6 May 2020 – As the nation is coming together in many ways to help the community, the public, and the Government to cope with the COVID-19 Pandemic; Kumpulan Wang Persaraan (Diperbadankan) [KWAP] has come forth to be part of the effort. 

At the end of last month, KWAP donated RM100,000 worth of drones and accessories to the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) to assist their surveillance efforts to enforce the MCO in curbing further spread of the COVID-19 Pandemic in the country. The deployment of additional drones for surveillance will enhance PDRM’s capability to provide a wider coverage and monitoring of hard-to-reach areas.

This effort is in collaboration with one of KWAP’s technology portfolio company, Aerodyne Group. Aerodyne Group is a leading global drone-based asset management solutions and services provider. Aerodyne is currently working closely with PDRM on aerial monitoring during the MCO and will continue to complement PDRM with their resources and knowledge on the use of the fleet of drones for surveillance.

The Inspector General of Police of Malaysia, Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Abdul Hamid Bador received the drones from KWAP Chief Executive Officer, Syed Hamadah Syed Othman at the handover ceremony, witnessed by Tengku Dato’ Sri Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz, the Minister of Finance, and Tan Sri Ahmad Badri Mohd Zahir, the former Secretary-General of Treasury, Ministry of Finance, and former KWAP Chairman.

KWAP had also contributed RM500,000 to GLC/GLIC Disaster Response Network (GDRN) Fund, aimed to aid the demands from local hospitals for medical equipment, PPEs, ventilators, and food supplies among others, during this pandemic. Syed Hamadah said, “Our effort in this respect is in line with KWAP’s Corporate Level Environmental,
Social, and Governance (ESG) Guideline, whereby one of the pillars encompasses Social Issues. Through this, we have been adopting an official stance that while we strive to generate good returns on our investment, we would still be mindful of the needs of the general community, pensioners, and future pensioners creating positive impacts in the areas and the public that we operate in”.
